    RYA First Aid At Sea

    When sailing with family and friends, familiarity in first aid knowledge can save lives in medical emergencies. This one-day course teaches skippers and small craft users first aid.

    The RYA First Aid At Sea Course covers all basic first aid topics but focuses on yachts and boats and boating situations. It targets boaters on inland waters, rivers, estuaries, and channel passages.

    It meets the requirements for cat C commercial first aid kits for: Professional skippers of small craft working within 60 miles of a safe haven, Coastal Skipper, Yachtmaster, and Advanced Powerboat competency certifications, as well as some requirements for commercial work afloat on small craft up to 24m. It includes Boatmasters and the Senior First Aid certificate needed by offshore racers subject to ISAF's first aid training regulations (OSR 4.08.4).

    The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and the Health and Safety Executive have both approved the RYA First Aid Course (HSE). The certificate lasts three years.

    It is a Channel Sailing Club discounted rate of £69.00, down from the list price of £120.00 and places are available for Sunday 06th October 2024 at the Ashtead Cricket Club from 10.00am to 5.30pm.

    Are you thinking of becoming a skipper or planning a flotilla holiday? This course is the perfect starting point, offering essential knowledge for making informed decisions on the water.

    If you're considering the Day Skipper Practical Course, this theory course is the ideal complement. Spread across five Sunday sessions, it allows plenty of time during the week to absorb and reflect on the material covered.

    • Coastal navigation and pilotage
    • Chartwork and electronic charts
    • Position fixing and plotting a course to steer
    • Weather forecasting and meteorology
    • Tides and tidal streams
    • Collision regulations

Joining fellow students and an experienced RYA Yachtmaster instructor in person will offer deeper insights and a more engaging experience than online alternatives. Your instructor, highly qualified and knowledgeable, will answer all your questions and use a range of teaching methods to bring the material to life.

    If you're thinking about taking the Day Skipper practical course, this is the theory course to go along with it.  Laid out over six Sunday sessions to give you time during the week to reflect on the information provided.

    What the course covers

    Seamanship, coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations.

    We strongly believe time in the classroom with other students and our RYA Yachtmaster instructor will give you the strongest result. A highly experienced and qualified instructor will explain many areas of the course more clearly than online courses.  Your instructor can answer all our questions who uses a variety of learning styles that will bring the subject matter to life.

    The dates for the 6 sessions are:

    Oct 29th 2023, Nov 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th and Dec 3rd.
    Times are 10am to 5.00pm except the 19th Nov which starts at 11.00am.
