Description: Tom Barnett, SAR Mission Coordinator from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Fareham talks about the work and structure of HM Coastguard. From twisted ankles on coastal paths to coordinating the rescue of a dismasted yacht at 29 Degrees West and everything in between. Amongst other things Tom leads one of Solent Coastguards operational teams. He grew up in Lymington sailing both dinghies and keelboats, he now lives in Gosport with his young family and keeps his Gib ’sea 92 in the harbour. On his days off, Tom is mostly found pottering around the Solent solo, with great ambition to one day solo sail round the UK. :
